Act I
In The Beginning
Perfection & Unity
In the beginning...To find the true beginning of this story, we need to look in the Book of John, for it actually precedes Genesis. John 1:1 to 5 tells us;
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
John is introducing Jesus here. He leaves no doubt that Jesus was not only with God in the beginning, but that Jesus was also the creator of everything. If we move ahead and look at Genesis 1:1&2 we will find the beginning of a story that points towards something we all long for, the possibility of perfect love, companionship and unity.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."
The Hebrew word for God in these passages is "Elohim" which is plural for El (Jehovah/God).
Chuck Smith's book Charisma vs. Charismania tells us;
El = God, Elah = God dual and Elohim = God in the plural (more than 2!)
This is the
basis for the "three" forms of God. Mr. Smith goes on
to suggest we look at it; not 1 + 1 + 1 = 3
God is complete; He can't add anything more to Himself. But don't try to put limits on Him either. This concept doesn't change his oneness! Maybe when the "Spirit" hovered over the water He gave water the similar gift. Water remains water even though it can be solid, vapor or liquid. I believe when God said,
"Let
Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness"
(Genesis
1:26)
Perhaps He did the same for Man! Aren't you 3 in 1 also? Let's look at it.
God Man Water
God (Father) mind liquid
Christ (Son) body ice
Holy Spirit spirit vapor
Does this make sense? I think it’s kind’of fun when you think about it. Allow me use another example - space. It is made up of 3 single dimensions. My mind can't comprehend one dimension, can yours? Try it. If you can perceive it, it occupies space and it therefore has to have 3 dimensions. Right? For my mind, this . (dot) has to have 3 dimensions. There is no way to make it small enough or thin enough to where it wouldn't have some height, width and/or depth. (For a real fun study look into light and see how white light is broken into the three basic colors.) I think Man is the same. If we just had a body we'd be a vegetable. If we were just a mind and a body we'd be a robot or at best a creature with instinct. It's not until you combine body, mind and spirit that we are a complete person."And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness"
Genesis 1:26
Conclusion of Act I
So "In the beginning" even before our world, before our time, there was God; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. There was absolute perfection, beauty, unity and everything was good. I picture it a little like three guys having the perfect fishing (sailing or what ever is your pleasure) trip together for all eternity.
That's the
whole of Act I. Everything is in perfect harmony.
It could have stayed this way.
