La Grand Aioli
This dish comes from Provençe. Whole towns get together to celebrate a Grand Aioli. It used to be the biggest pot-luck around (although nowadays I understand more often than not it's usually catered by a small group). The women get together and make huge mortar (as in mortar & pestle) fulls (?) of this special sauce called Aioli (the world's greatest combination of fresh garlic and olive oil). The men would supply the other stuff, if you raised chickens, that's what you brought. The fishermen brought fish, the farmers brought artichokes, tomatoes, potatoes and so on until you had just about everything that was produced in the entire region. The entire village met in "centreville" and depending on the time of year the party could go on for days.
The pictures below are just a few of our versions.
